Point Defiance Bypass Corridor

(Pierce County, WA)  Landau Associates prepared the Soils and Geology Discipline Report for Washington State Department of Transportation’s $89 million Point Defiance Bypass Project, a part of the larger Pacific Northwest Rail Corridor. The Project will consist of railroad track and support facility improvements and relocating the existing Tacoma Amtrak Station for improved safety and reliability and enhanced passenger rail service frequency and efficiency for Amtrak Cascades service. The Project is located in Pierce County along an approximately 20-mile corridor that is owned by Sound Transit.

Our scope of services included review of available information to characterize soil and geologic conditions along the corridor, completing a visual reconnaissance along portions of the corridor, identifying potential soil- and geologic-related potential impacts to the project and surrounding area, and developing possible measures to mitigate and/or minimize impacts from the project—all part of the necessary studies for the Environmental Assessment.
