Historical Landfill Off-Gas Treatment Options Evaluation

(Central Washington) Landau Associates conducted a focused feasibility study of various soil vapor extraction off-gas treatment alternatives on behalf of a confidential client. The study identifies and evaluates seven alternatives for treating soil-gas extracted from an industrial portion of an historical landfill in central Washington State with high volatile organic compound (VOC) mass-loading rates. The study included an evaluation of the energy efficiency and an estimate of the cost to operate the various systems over a 30-year service life. The study provided a recommendation for treatment technology based on factors including cost, ease of operation, flexibility to accommodate large variations in mass loading rates, and the ability to reliably meet regulatory criteria.
