Landau Associates Receives ACEC Best in State Silver Award

EDMONDS, WA  January 27, 2014 – Landau Associates earned a Silver Award for Originality and Innovation from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)–Washington for their work to engineer a collaborative course of action across two environmental projects at the Port of Bellingham. Landau Associates designed a method to beneficially reuse stabilized, dredged sediment from Squalicum Harbor at the Cornwall Avenue Landfill site. The Washington State Department of Ecology approved an interim action to use the stabilized dredged sediment as part of a capping system to reduce the amount of stormwater infiltrating through the landfill site where it might pick up contaminants before entering Bellingham Bay.

Infographic: Sources of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in Indoor Air

EDMONDS, WA  January 7, 2014 – Landau Associates has published an infographic about potential sources of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor air and a case study on isotope analysis to support differentiation between vapor intrusion and background indoor air sources. Exposure to VOCs in indoor air can have adverse health effects. The infographic shows that VOCs can enter indoor air as a result of vapor migration from contaminated subsurface soil or groundwater, which is an environmental process known as vapor intrusion. VOCs are also common in many indoor household, office, and industrial products.

Steve Johnston to Retire, Jay Bower New CEO

Edmonds, WA, June 13, 2013 – Landau Associates, Inc., a regional environmental, geotechnical, permitting, and compliance services consulting firm, announces that President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Johnston will retire from the company effective June 28, 2013, after 10 successful years as CEO and 26 years with the firm. Jay Bower, PE, formerly Chief Operating Officer, is the firm’s new CEO.

The City of Arlington and Landau Associates were honored by the American Planning Association Washington Chapter (APAWA) for “Honoring Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Planning in the Category of Physical Plans – Small Cities and Counties” for the City of Arlington’s “Old Town” Wetland project. At the recent 2012 APA Washington Planning Conference, Landau Associates and the City of Arlington received a 2012 Planning Award from APAWA and the Planning Association of Washington (PAW).
